Worried About Spam?
If you are worried about giving out your email address because you think they may sell it to advertisers, here’s a simple way to protect yourself.
First, get yourself a gmail account- it’s free. Just go to gmail.com and sign up.
Call your account e.g. james@gmail.com
Next, every time you sign up for something or give your email address to anyone, do this:
james+johndoefreegift@gmail.com
The + sign and anything following will not confuse gmail, so you will get the message. You will be able to tell who sent the message and if it is spam from another company, you will know you sold your email address.
You can then filter and send to spam, any emails with that + extension.
